Bayer has issued its first quarterly analysis on its discontinued Essure birth control device. Included are :
73 death reports among 7,509 adverse events for June-August 2020. Bayer stopped selling Essure in late 2018 after thousands of women reported complications including breakage of the device, pain, and migration. Essure consists of metal coils that are inserted into the fallopian tubes. There they block the passage of a fertilized egg. The theory is that scar tissue will form around the implant blocking the passage of a fertilized egg.
